Finland's Blue Lake Communications deploys technology from Entropic and InCoax Networks

Finnish operator Blue Lake Communications (BLC) has deployed technology from Sweden’s InCoax Networks and US firm Entropic Communications in order to deliver higher speed broadband and advanced IPTV services to its customers.

The operator has deployed InCoax Gigabit over Coax Access (GoCA) technology, which leverages Entropic’s Ethernet-over-Coax solution, based on the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) standard.

The GoCA platform consists of three products with a total capacity of up to 250Mbps, 500Mbps or 1000Mbps serving different building sizes over the existing coaxial network, while delivering 100 Mbps throughput to each subscriber.

BLC is part of the Finnish Finnet group of 29 local telecom companies, and serves around 15,000 subscribers in the eastern part of the country, mainly in and around the city of Savonlinna.

The operator has deployed the GoCA broadband access platform over existing coax networks in apartment houses and buildings in order to offer subscribers new premium services such as high-speed Internet, IPTV, IP telephony and films on-demand.

The Finnish government has set itself the target of ensuring that by 2015 at least 98 per cent of the country’s population will have access to broadband speeds of 100 Mbps.
