Moto sheds 30 jobs in Ireland

Mobile manufacturer Motorola is to shed around 30 jobs at its research and development centre at Mahon in Cork, Ireland.

The firm employs around 500 people in software development and semi-conductor design at the plant.

Last April the company told staff it was seeking voluntary redundancies. Motorola would not comment publicly on numbers, but it is understood the company told staff that between 30 and 150 jobs would be cut.

Motorola has confirmed that negotiations on redundancies have now been completed and what it described as “a small number” of staff will leave its Cork plant voluntarily.
