[Shenzhen, China, September 6, 2017] At the 2017 China International Optoelectronic Exposition held in Shenzhen, Huawei and industry partners jointly held an industry development meeting on 50GE interfaces — a key 5G bearing technology, to promote the commercial use of 5G bearing. This meeting brought together partners throughout the industrial chain, including China Mobile, Huawei, Accelink, Hisense, Spirent, and Ixia. This meeting was intended to promote industry cooperation and development through discussions on the construction of future 5G networks, with a special focus on the cutting-edge 50GE interface technology.

Service bearing is essential to 5G. Mass 5G connections and bandwidth-intensive services such as AR and VR will undoubtedly pose a daunting challenge to operators and service suppliers in bearer network construction. 5G involves two types of frequency band resources: high frequency bands and low frequency bands. In the future, the bandwidth of a 5G base station will be 5 to 10 times that of a 4G base station. It is estimated that bandwidth on the access ring of a bearer network will exceed 26 Gb/s. Considering the extremely high bandwidth required, the 50GE interface technology is clearly the best choice for the access rings of next-generation bearer networks. Considering that 50 Gb/s will probably be a basic rate for the next-generation Ethernet, the 50GE interface developed based on mature technologies will enjoy a huge market space. The 25Gb/s optical component used by the 50GE interface is widely adopted by 100GE, 200GE, and 400GE interfaces due to its high speed and low cost. The PAM4 encoding technology used by the 50GE interface provides the required bandwidth by adding only a few electrical-layer components to the 25G optical component, making 50GE interfaces highly cost-effective.
