Holiday cancellations hit telecoms industry as Awards deadline looms

Marketing execs throughout the telecoms industry are thought to be abandoning their summer holiday plans to ensure their companies’ participation in the 2017 Glotel Awards.

With the entry deadline less than two weeks away those aspiring telcos that failed to complete their entry in July are finding their poolside cocktail experience marred by anxiety about missing out on the industry event of the year. The prospect of their competitors benefitting from illustrious recognition of their achievements while they languish in conspicuous anonymity has proven to bleak a prospect for some.

“The Gevrey-Chambertin wasn’t going down well while the prospect of missing out on the Glotels remained, so I just had to fly back and make sure everything was OK,” a telecoms CMO told Telecoms.com on condition of anonymity. “Working on my tan when our Awards entry was still up in the air just didn’t feel right.”

Of the many entries last year, those fortunate enough to be shortlisted for, let alone win, a prestigious Glotel Award last year are still basking in the glory of their unparalleled industry recognition. The panel of independent judges from across the industry ensure the possession of a Glotel Award represents a true endorsement of the project submitted. Accordingly we expect a few more holidays to be curtailed ahead of the 18 August submission deadline.
