Voice is an often overlooked element of the LTE ecosystem, so telecoms.com chatted with Eric Ericsson, head of telephony evolution at Ericsson, at the LTE World Summit about the need to carry voice, as well as data, over LTE.

Ericsson outlined the main differences between over the top VoIP services like Skype and the better quality of experience of voice over LTE. He also spoke about the GSMA VoLTE program and its alignment with operator needs ahead of expected deployment in 2011, and the industry focus on roaming an interconnect in LTE voice.
