Security vendors claim Regin comes from either the US or UK governments

German mobile operator E-Plus, in the process of being acquired by operator group Telefónica, has implemented a 3GPP-compliant security solution to deliver a safer mobile broadband experience for its subscribers.

The operator called in Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) to deliver authentication of network elements, automatic rollout and lifecycle management of base station certificates.

According to NSN, security risks are mounting as operators move to all-IP networks and operators must take action to minimise threats to protect both consumers and networks.

Under the contract, the vendor will deliver its radio access security solution, comprising a security gateway and public key infrastructure (PKI) to ensure that only operator-authorised base stations can access the network.
