Swiss mobile operators Swisscom Mobile, Orange and TDC’s Sunrise are set to trial the DVB-H mobile TV platform from Wednesday through a pilot with Swisscom Broadcast.

The trial will run until the end of January and will involve some 200 select customers and employees spread across the three operators in the city of Berne.

Participants in the trial will be given a Nokia N92 handset on which up to 17 TV channels and three to four radio channels can be received.

Swisscom Broadcast and the mobile operators said they expect the trial to allow them many important insights into the market appeal and customer requirements with regard to mobile TV.

The broadcaster said it intends to broadcast the TV signal via the DVB-H radio network, while operators will use the mobile network in parallel as a feedback channel for the exchange of access data or for interactive services.
