Norwegian operator group Telenor has agreed to acquire Bulgarian mobile operator Globul from Greek operator group OTE. Telenor will pay €717m for the business as it looks to expand its presence in Central and Eastern Europe.

Greece’s largest operator OTE has announced it is embarking on a programme of voluntary retirement. OTE’s Board of Directors has approved a scheme to begin talks with labour unions to encourage employees who are close to their retirement age to leave the firm.
The Serbian government has given the sole bidder in its Telekom Srbjia sell-off 15 days to improve its offer. A fortnight ago, it emerged that Telekom Austria AG’s offer of €800-950m for the mostly-state-owned telco was the only bid received. The Serbian government, which owns 80 per cent of the telco, was hoping to attract offers in excess of €1.4bn for a 51 per cent stake in the company.
Slovenian carrier Telekom Slovenije has beaten Turkcell to the punch, snapping up Macedonian mobile operator Cosmofon for Eur190m.
