UK operator Vodafone has created a new global business unit dedicated to providing its enterprise customers with cyber security technologies and support.
Vodafone Enterprise Security Services is a product of the formal grouping together of Vodafone’s existing portfolio of security products and services. It will be headed-up by Simon Church, who was CEO of NTT Com Security (formerly Integralis) until a year ago, when he stepped down to do a spot of consulting. He will take over at VESS in April and report into Vodafone Group Enterprise Chief Executive Nick Jeffery.
“Our customers know they face a wide range of cyber threats, many of which could materially impact their operations and brand,” said Jeffrey. “We know they’re looking for trusted partners with the right expertise to stand with them and help them secure their operations from end to end. Vodafone Enterprise Security Services is designed to meet that important need.”
While competitors such as BT/EE are being very proactive in the consumer market, Vodafone seems to be focusing its energies more on the enterprise space, with the fixed network acquired with Cable & Wireless in 2012 at the core. Vodafone wants some of the tens of billions that will spent on enterprise cyber-security in the coming years and feels it’s in a strong position via products such as cloud backup, network perimeter management and risk assessment.
