MTS and VimpelCom will build LTE networks in Russia

European operator group VimpelCom has selected infrastructure vendor NSN to supply equipment for its LTE radio access network in some regions of Russia. NSN has signed a five year deal covering central Russia, south Russia, Siberia and most of the Volga and Ural regions.

Under the terms of the deal, the vendor will implement its Single RAN platform built around the firm’s Flexi Multiradio Base Station in VimpelCom’s network. It will also supply VimpelCom with its NetAct management system which will enable the operator to monitor and optimise its network resources, as well as network planning, optimisation and implementation services.

“With this project, NSN will build an overlay LTE network that will significantly increase mobile data speeds in the respective regions and offer end users an overall improved communications experience,” said Kristina Tikhonova, head of Region East at NSN.

The 10th annual LTE World Summit, the premier 4G event for the telecoms industry, is taking place on the 23rd-26th June 2014, at the Amsterdam RAI, Netherlands. Click here to download a brochure for the event.
