Ericsson expands services contract with Bharti Airtel
Ericsson's five-year deal with Airtel covers 70 per cent of the carrier's Indian operation

Swedish infrastructure and services provider Ericsson has announced an extension of its managed services deal with Indian carrier Bharti Airtel. The new, five-year deal will see Ericsson manage Airtel’s multi-vendor, multi-technology network across 15 Indian telecom circles, which together account for 70 per cent of Airtel’s Indian network.

Small cell base stations are set to play an important role

A growth in markets with multiple femtocell offerings is driving operators to offer the products for free, according to a new study from Informa Telecoms & Media. Femtocell services are currently available in 23 countries around the world, and 43 per cent of these countries have multiple operators offering the technology, the firm said. For the majority of these countries, at least one operator offers the devices free of charge.

African tower firm scores $150m funding

African tower management firm Eaton Towers said Monday it has secured equity funding worth $150m from Capital International Private Equity Funds (CIPEF), a private equity investor focused on emerging markets.

China Telecom to name UK MVNO host by end August

The European arm of Chinese carrier China Telecom will name the host of its forthcoming UK MVNO play before September, managing director Ou Yan told Telecoms.com. China Telecom Europe will be launching a UK MVNO before the end of Q112, targeting the half a million Chinese living in Britain with a SIM-only, Chinese content offering.
