Telefónica pledges to promote Windows devices

Telefonica has vowed to enhance its marketing efforts for Windows Phone devices for one year

Spanish operator group Telefónica has established a partnership with Microsoft to “promote and foster sales” of Windows Phone 8 devices in six of the markets it operates in. The operator said the move reinforces its commitment to encourage the operating platform landscape to become more diverse and less of a duopoly dominated by Google and Apple.

As it continues its aggressive push in the smartphone space, Microsoft has announced two Windows Phone 8 handsets designed by Taiwanese vendor HTC. The HTC Windows Phone 8X is the premium handset of the two, with a 4.3in HD screen and a Qualcomm S4 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It has 1GB RAM, 16GB storage space and comes with an 8-megapixel camera.

In an effort to consolidate its position as the third biggest player in the smartphone ecosystem, Finnish handset manufacturer Nokia has unveiled two devices running on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform.The move comes less than a week after Samsung pipped Nokia to the post with a view of the first Windows Phone 8 device to be seen.

Beating Microsoft partner Nokia to the punch, Korean handset giant Samsung has unveiled the first Windows Phone 8 (WP8) handset. The ATIV S handset was showcased at the IFA 2012 consumer electronics trade show in Berlin. It has a 4.8in display and runs on a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor.
