Arun Sarin joins board of wifi player DeviceScape
The former CEO of Vodafone, Arun Sarin, has joined the board of a wifi offload specialist that claims to be the curator of the world’s largest wifi network. Devicescape offers a rolling curator service that verifies the quality of more than 12 million public and amenity (instore, shopping mall, etc) wifi hotpsots based on feedback from user devices.
KPN signs wifi deal with Fon
Dutch incumbent operator KPN has announced a partnership with wifi network provider Fon that it says will give KPN customers access to more than 1,500 hotspots in the Netherlands and a further seven million worldwide.
Wifi carries 78% of UK Android data
UK Android smartphone users access almost 80 per cent of their mobile data over wifi networks, according to research from Nielsen. In a study of some 1,500 Android users with a metering app installed on their devices, Nielsen found that wifi offload varied considerably depending on the time of day, but averaged 78 per cent.
