US chip vendor Intel has confirmed its designs on the burgeoning smartphone space with the unveiling of its latest Atom processor – the Z6xx – formerly known as ‘Moorestown’.
As Las Vegas gadget show CES wound up at the end of last week, Intel announced that it too would be going after a slice of the app store action.
US chip shop Intel recorded a whopping 55 per cent drop in net income for the first quarter of 2009, chalking up $647m against $1.4bn in the same period last year.
The Google-backed Android platform is likely to emerge as the strongest contender in the growing netbook market, blazing a trail on sub-$200 Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs).
