Multi-Links future in doubt as deal with Visafone is cancelled

Telkom SA's plans to sell Multi-Links to Visafone have been scuppered

South African incumbent operator Telkom has cancelled its planned sale of Nigerian subsidiary Multi-Links to Visafone. Having announced a done deal to the tune of $52m in April this year, Telkom CEO Nombulelo Moholi has said that a recent court ruling in Nigeria now means that the South African company is unable to go through with the deal. Consequently, Telkom will stop funding the subsidiary with immediate effect, leaving the future of the company in doubt.

Millicom extends Helios partnership to DRC

The DRC deal is Millicom's third deal with Helios this year

Developing markets specialist operator Millicom has struck a deal with African tower firm Helios Towers that will see ownership of 729 of the towers in its network in the Republic of the Congo (DRC) transferred to Helios. Under the deal, Millicom’s local operation Tigo will receive at least $45m in cash upfront and retain a significant minority interest in Helios’ own DRC subsidiary, Helios Towers DRC (HTD).
