Handset player Nokia has signed a deal with ST-Ericsson in a move that will see the chipset vendor’s NovaThor mobile application platform used in future Windows Phone devices.
Chip maker Marvell has announced what it says is the world’s first single-chip solution for LTE and has aimed it at a wide variety of internet enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops , set-top-boxes, TVs and automotive applications.

Altair Semiconductor, a developer of LTE chipsets, has shown off its TD-LTE chipset running at up to 50Mbps on the downlink, and 18Mbps on the uplink. The demonstration was made to China Mobile executives at a Next Generation Mobile Network (NGMN) Alliance board meeting using an AsiaTelco manufactured USB dongle.

Silicon vendor Texas Instruments (TI) has announced that it is to acquire fellow semiconductor player National Semiconductor in an all-cash deal that values National at $6.5bn. TI said the deal had the unanimous approval of the boards of both companies and is expected to close in the final quarter of the year.
