Nokia and Kyocera find solution to patent row
10 January 2006
Finnish vendor Nokia and Japanese vendor Kyocera have announced today they have ended their patent spat and entered into a patent license agreement. Under the terms of the deal, Kyocera is licensed under Nokia's essential patents, and some additional patents relating to CDMA, PHS and PDC standards. Kyocera will also pay royalties to Nokia for all Kyocera CDMA handset and module products.
In return Nokia is licensed under all Kyocera's essential patents, and some extra patents relating to all standards and covering all Nokia products.
The two companies have been involved in a number of patent disputes relating to mobile phone products since early 2004. The license agreement that was formalized between the vendors resolves any pending litigation between the two companies without any contingencies of any kind.
