Wherever you may roam
01 December 2005
Roamware has announced a solution that will enable operators to enhance the roaming services they are able to offer their prepaid users. 76 per cent of all GSM users opt to prepay, and its popularity is greatest in developing markets. The firm claims that 40 per cent of current prepaid users - 480 million customers - are unable to roam at all, while 25 per cent - 300 million users - can do so with only limited service.
Roamware's Prepaid Local Number (PLN) service, the firm says, will allow operators to assign to visiting roamers a local prepaid number for the duration of their stay, enabling the user to benefit from services in both the home and visited market. When using the local number, incoming calls are free of charge.
Mohan Gyani, Roamware CEO, said: "With this unique service we have addressed a key gap in the roaming environment. Mobile users are becoming far more value sensitive, and look for services that provide increased convenience in addition to value based tariffing.
"Operators who do not invest in creating an environment for roamers that provides enhanced services as well as the ability for the roamer to access 'home' network services could jeopardize their roaming revenue."
