The Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition, from Openwave Systems, the provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, is described as being 25 per cent faster at loading web pages than the nearest competitor in head-to-head testing
A redesign of the core Openwave browser, the Mercury Edition increases access to web content by expanding upon Openwave's off-net browsing capabilities with new features such as scripting, AJAX compatibility, and Wide Screen and Map and Zoom display modes
Key features of the new Mercury Edition, include: high performance graphics engine; progressive rendering of content; optimised table layout; ECMAScript Mobile Profile; multiple screen display modes, with map and zoom capability; support for HTML 4.01, WCSS 1.1 and WML; support for both HTTP and WSP Networking, including Proxyless HTTP; and full SSL 3.0/TLS 1.0 support, WTLS Class II on WAP Stack.
