T-Mobile invests in femto maker
03 March 2008
Deutsche Telekom's mobile investment fund has taken an interest in femto technology, joining Google with a strategic investment in Ubiquisys.
The T-Mobile Venture Fund announced Monday that it has made an investment in 3G femtocell shop Ubiquisys, joining Google and original investors Accel Partners, Atlas Venture and Advent Venture Partners.
The Ubiquisys femtocells are currently in mass production with Sony Technium and are being deployed by partners such as Nokia Siemens Networks and NEC in operator trials worldwide, including T-Mobile.
"Femtocells are fundamental to the future of mobile. They solve the coverage dilemma whilst lowering costs for operators and consumers alike. They pave the way for new mobile services that put the mobile phone at the centre of the connected home, and allow operators to offer improved fixed broadband and mobile bundles," said Axel Kolb, fund manager for the T-Mobile Venture Fund.
