27 February 2008
Online auction house eBay said this week it has selected an in house executive to be the new head of internet telephony operation Skype.
Josh Silverman, who is currently CEO of Shopping.com, another eBay company, will take the reins at Skype on March 24, reporting directly to John Donahoe, president and CEO-elect of eBay.
Michael van Swaaij, who was appointed interim CEO in October, will stay actively involved with Skype, the company said.
Skype has experienced strong growth since it was founded in 2003, now reaching than 276 million registered users worldwide. Skype was acquired by eBay in September 2005.
