Ericsson to quit enterprise PBX space
18 February 2008
Swedish vendor Ericsson has announced that it is to offload its enterprise PBX division to Canadian enterprise communications specialist Aastra for SEK650m (US$102m).
The sale, which is expected to close in April this year, will involve the transfer of some 630 staff to Aastra, half of which are based in Sweden. 2007 sales for the unit were approximately SEK3bn and Ericsson expects to make a capital gain of around SEK200m.
Direct to enterprise sales are no longer viewed as core to Ericsson's business, with the firm saying that it intends to focus on providing its enterprise applications to the operator and service provider communities.
The firm predicted further consolidation in the enterprise services space going forward.
Ericsson, meanwhile, is gaining momentum in the managed services space, hosting applications, running networks and managing logistical operations for its carrier customer base. The firm makes one third of its revenues from its managed services business.
