UK now up for sale?

UK wireless broadband provider UK Broadband, which operates under the brand 'now', is believed to be up for sale, after failing to compete effectively against its fixed line rivals.

The service, based on UMTS-TDD also known as TD-CDMA, launched in London in 2005 under the name Netvigator but changed its name to 'now' to be more uniform with Hong Kong parent PCCW's brand.

But it is reported that now has only managed to attract 14,000 subscribers and the service has been severely hampered by limited speeds - 1Mbps is the fastest on offer, which even undermines the fact its wireless, never mind the uncompetitive price of £14 per month.

PCCW is now understood to be looking to cut its losses in the UK.
