Net Neutrality coming to Europe

The spectre of a two-tiered internet took shape today as some of Europe's largest telecommunication operators expressed their desire to levy new charges on content companies such as Google and Ebay to distribute their products and services over the internet.
The money derived from these charges will, they argue, help operators to recoup the billions being spent on high-speed broadband networks. The argument over so-called 'Net Neutrality' is already raging in North America but according to the Financial Times newspaper, Ricardo Perissich, head of regulatory affairs at Telecom Italia has warned that the issue is about to land on European shores.
The FT quotes Mr Perissich saying: "We are all concerned about this new emerging competition and we have raised this issue with the European Commission."
