3GSM: O2 tunes into mobile radio

UK mobile operator O2 jumped on the mobile radio bandwagon today, with the announcement that that it will be launching its Visual Radio offering next month.
Visual Radio will initially allow listeners to tune in to Virgin Radio via their mobile phones, while simultaneously receiving interactive information and graphics that are synchronised with the broadcast.
Initially listeners will see 'now playing' information, artist pictures, DJ information etc. They will also be able to participate in unique quizzes and enter competitions, as well as being able to download ringtones. Planned are tour dates, hot gossip, song ratings, dedications, news, traffic and weather information.
The service is delivered to O2 as a hosted solution by HP and will be available to O2 customers using a Nokia phone pre-loaded with the Visual Radio application.
Visual Radio is charged at O2's standard data rates of £3 per Mb, or from £3 for 2mb and £5 for 4mb using O2 bolt ons.
