Eircom stakeholder about to make full bid
07 February 2006
There is heavy speculation that Babcock and Brown Capital, the Australian private equity fund which took a 12.5 per cent stake in the Irish incumbent, Eircom last year, is about to make a bid for the telecoms group.
Shares in Eircom rose 3.1 per cent to Euro 2.03 on the news.
A source close to the company told telecoms.com that there has been "heavy volume" in Eircom shares since the middle of last week and that Babcock and Brown had been known to be "a little more than interested" in the group.
A spokeswoman for Eircom said the company does not speculate on rumours.
