At Mobile World Congress in February, chip firm Intel marked its foray into the mobile devices space, with an Atom-powered handset co-developed with Orange.

The handset, codenamed the ‘Santa Clara’, will be available in the summer, and features branding by both Orange and Intel. It’s targeted at the mass market but packs some high-profile hardware including 1.6GHz CPU, high resolution 4” display, 16GB of storage, HD voice, HDMI and NFC.

Telecoms.com took the opportunity to interview both Yves Maitre, senior VP of mobile multimedia and devices at Orange Group, and Hermann Eul, president of mobile at Intel.

In the video interview, Maitre speaks about the use of own-branded devices as a differentiator for the carrier and says he is confident in being first to market with an Intel-powered smartphone, saying the move is aligned with what consumers are demanding.
