American programmer and entrepreneur Paul Buchheit has a CV that reads like Silicon Valley by numbers in terms of employers. Prior to his joining Google in 1999, Buchheit worked at Intel, Sun Microsystems and Microsoft. When he joined Google, he was employee number 23 and is credited with the creation and initial development of Gmail, as well as the prototype of AdSense.
Telefónica’s UK operation O2 has told Telecoms.com that it is not fulfilling orders for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone until Google and Samsung have fixed a bug that sees the phone spontaneously lose audio, affecting voice calls and audio alerts. The Galaxy Nexus is the first commercially available handset to sport version 4.0 of the Android smartphone OS, which Google has dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich.

Sweden’s mobile operators are the latest carriers to band together and form a mobile payments joint venture. Investment amounts have not been revealed, but Telia, Tele2, Telenor and 3 will each own 25 per cent.

UK based carrier Vodafone is addressing the problem of swollen app stores, which it sees as a daunting experience for consumers due to the overwhelming numbers of apps. This week the company followed up on its own portal within the Android Market, with an own branded and curated app store that exists in its own right.
Google has launched a music service to give users access to their music collections from their Android devices. The service, Google Music, allows users to buy, share and stream music on the go for free.
International mobile operator Orange has announced a collaboration with Facebook on a range of sub-€100 handsets described by Facebook’s head of mobile, Henri Moissinac, as featuring “the best set of integrations so far” of any device the social networking firm has co-developed. Orange said consumers who buy the handsets, which are built by Alcatel, will get “unlimited” access to Facebook as part of their data plan.

Global mobile operator Telenor has teamed with Google to launch a personalised Android App store for its customers. Telenor will offer its Android users access to a portal within Android Market that contains a suite of apps tailored to the local market.
