Femtocells grow into the enterprise space
Femtocell deployments may have doubled to 19 since last year’s Mobile World Congress but the news that seems to be causing the most excitement among members of the Femto Forum is the growth in enterprise interest in the technology. “Last year, all commercial femtocell deployments were residential, now more than a third are enterprise-focused,” said Femto Forum Chairman Simon Saunders, adding that commitments to launch the technology have tripled to 34 in the past year.

But Semir Majoub, president of Ericsson Mobile Money Services, told Telecoms.com that the company may yet look to apply for a licence of its own.

That much is evident given there’s standing room only in the media centre and people are camping out to make sure they get a desk. It’s like an Apple product launch in here.

#MWC Day 1: Rainy Monday
Unresolved questions about the Nokia–Microsoft tie-up hung heavily over Barcelona today like the grey clouds and drizzle which seem to have become an unwelcome feature of the Mobile World Congresses in this city.
