In the first of three instalments, Ericsson CTO Håkan Eriksson talks to Telecoms.com about the firm’s strategic priorities and the state of the industry. During the final day of my trip to Barcelona for MWC, I was treated to a bus ride. Not just any bus ride though. This was a bus loaded with tech kit, hooked up to a couple of prototype dongles and connected to the FDD and TDD flavours of LTE radio. The reason was a field demonstration of LTE’s capabilities, set up by Nokia Siemens Networks, Huawei, Vodafone and China Mobile.

Ken Denman, Chief Executive Officer of global software firm Openwave Systems talks about the better management of bandwidth and how operators can better monetise the network information they have available. The company also announced a partnership with Juniper Networks, which will see Openwave technology integrated into Juniper hardware.

Renaud Duverne, head of marketing for the signal analysers & sources unit at Agilent, talks about LTE Advanced and the obstacles operators face in deploying next generation wireless. Due to the complexity of LTE as a technology, testing times have increased but Duverne highlights developments that have made testing more affordable.
