Kentucky Now Has Lte Thanks To The Verizon Lte Rural America Program

Kentucky based Bluegrass Cellular has announced the launch of a 4G LTE network, a development that comes out of its 2010 agreement with Verizon as part of the latter’s Wireless LTE in Rural America program.

The Kentucky cities that will be hooked up in the initial rollout are Bowling Green, Glasgow, Radcliff, Bardstown and Elizabethtown covering some 384,000 people. More areas are expected to come online through 2013.

As with all Verizon customers, subscribers to Bluegrass in those areas will see speeds of around 12Mbps down and 5Mbps up. Bluegrass’s customers will also be able to roam onto Verizon’s LTE across the country.

Under the terms of the Verizon LTE in Rural America program Bluegrass leases Verizon’s 700MHz upper C spectrum block in an area where Verizon has not constructed its own network. The Rural America program now features eighteen carriers in fourteen states across America covering 2.7 million people and 144,000 square miles.
