Orange offers Visa mobile prepaid accounts in Africa
The carrier is offering Orange Money subscribers in the region applications such as person to person transfers, bill payments, and agent-based cash-in and cash-out services for loading or withdrawing funds.
Emerging markets specialist operator Bharti Airtel said this week that it has crossed the 300 million customer mark across its operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa. Its customer base consists of mobile, fixed line & DSL, and DTH users.
Mobile payments provider LoopPay has secured funding from global payments firm Visa, the company has revealed, without saying how much is involved. In France incumbent telco Orange has set two investment banks to investigate the potential takeover of rival Bouygues, while talks have resumed between Hutchison and Vimpelcom, which own 3 Italia and Wind respectively, about a potential merger. In both instances Reuteurs cited unnamed sources close to the situation.
