A consortium of six companies has agreed to build and operate a new trans-Pacific cable system linking Japan with the US. It has an initial design capacity of 60Tb per second and is consequently called ‘FASTER’, despite not apparently being an acronym.
The US operation of Japanese equipment vendor NEC recently unveiled a partnership with intelligent wifi architecture specialist Meru Networks to collaborate on software defined network (SDN)-enabled unified wired and wireless enterprise access.
Japanese carrier NTT Docomo and local equipment vendor NEC said Monday they have successfully virtualised the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) in joint verification tests to support the functions required for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV).
