David Sear, the former chief executive of the Weve mobile network e-commerce joint venture, has been appointed as group chief commercial officer at Skrill Group.

In this newly-created position he will oversee all commercial operations across the Skrill Group, comprising Skrill, paysafecard and payolution.

Sear abruptly left Weve, the joint venture between UK mobile network operators, EE, Telefonica UK (O2) and Vodafone UK, last month. He had been in the post for just over a year.

He will join Skrill in August and will be based at the company’s headquarters in London. When he resigned at Weve it was said that he would stay until a successor had been found. In a statement, Weve said only that it “will be making details of our new chief executive public in due course”.

He previously worked in a range of senior management positions with organisations including Travelex, VocaLink and WorldPay.

Siegfried Heimgaertner, chief executive of Skrill, said, “The payments industry is going through a period of rapid change, creating an opportunity for payment providers to evolve and innovate in order to meet shifting customer needs. I look forward to working with David to reinforce Skrill Group’s position as a provider of intelligent online payment solutions for businesses and individuals.”
