Nextel brings LTE to Brazil

Less than a year after the launch of 3G services in Rio de Janeiro and just in time to catch most of the World Cup action, Brazilian carrier Nextel this week switched on its 4G network in the city, giving users access to ten times faster download speeds.

Initially the company is providing debut LTE services in 19 regions around the city. Nextel uses the 1.8GHz frequency band, which it claims has the advantage of allowing a greater signal range for each tower compared to 2.5GHz, allowing for the installation of fewer antennas.

Also in São Paulo, Nextel has upgraded its 3G technology with three times faster data transmission than normal 3G.

To accompany the 4G network, Nextel launched the Smart Plan 400, which offers 4GB of data allowance, 400 minutes local calls to any carrier, unlimited SMS, free evening for any carrier and national roaming, for R$129.99 .

The 7th annual LTE North America conference is taking place on the November 18th-20th 2014 at the InterContinental Hotel, Dallas, Texas, USA. Click here NOW to download a brochure for the event.
