Vodafone NL to deploy IPTV solution from Entone

Cloud TV and connected home specialist Entone has announced a deal with Vodafone Netherlands that will see the Dutch operator deploying the Californian supplier’s IPTV services. Under the Vodafone Thuis brand, Vodafone will deliver TV services including video-on-demand and Pause Live TV over its FTTH network.

The deal is the latest in a series of moves by Vodafone to extend its reach into fixed broadband and pay TV markets. Recently the firm has announced he acquisition of Spanish cable operator Ono and German player Kabel Deutschland.

“This is a significant step in Vodafone’s strategy, in the Netherlands and globally, to build on our market leadership in mobile communications to create a multi-service delivery platform that addresses all needs of the consumer,” said Gerard Overmars, head of consumer fixed at Vodafone Netherlands. “Entone’s EnterLink solution enables us to quickly deploy advanced services today while also providing a flexible platform to launch emerging applications in the future.”

Steve McKay, CEO of Entone said: “We see mobile operators increasingly moving into advanced video services, and this represents a major growth area for Entone.”

Entone’s EnterLink solution combines 802.11ac wifi for wireless distribution, MoCA for HD video distribution over existing coax cabling, and Boxless for supporting multiple TVs from a single set-top box.
