Vodafone to create 1,400 retail jobs in UK

British operator group Vodafone has pledged to create 1,400 jobs in the UK by opening 150 new retail outlets across the nation.

The operator plans to invest £100m into the UK’s high street as part of its plans to spend £1bn overall in 2014 in networks and services in the UK.

Vodafone said that its 2014 capital investment programme is the largest in its history as it has committed to provide indoor and outdoor 2G, 3G and 4G coverage to 98 per cent of the UK population by 2015.

Prime Minister David Cameron said in support of Vodafone’s plans: “This is a fantastic vote of confidence in the UK workforce from a company investing for the future to harness the next generation of digital services.”

Vodafone UK CEO Jeroen Hoencamp added that the firm is committed to putting its brand and people at the heart of their high street and shopping centre.

“Our £100m retail investment this year will increase our ability to serve our customers better with highly skilled personal advice and support in 150 brand-new locations,” he said.
