WeDo to offer roaming and rating solutions through PT cloud

Portuguese business assurance specialist WeDo Technologies has announced a partnership with incumbent operator Portugal Telecom (PT) that will see the firm’s rating validation and roaming management solutions offered on a SaaS model as part of PT’s new enterprise cloud offering, SmartCloudPT.

The deal will allow PT to offer automated billing validation and roaming management services to other network operators. Meanwhile WeDo benefits from enhanced distribution, said the vendor’s VP New Markets, Marketing and Alliances, Sergio Silvestre. Customers would benefit from being able to access the services in “a pre-packaged, standardised format which can result in faster and lower cost deployments and maintenance,” he added.

PT launched a new 50,000 server datacenter in Covilhã in September, with CEO Henrique Granadeiro saying that the facility marked “a milestone in the transformation of PT into a global operator.” He added: “It is a fundamental step for the national economy and increases the competitiveness of our companies. The datacenter is important, but more important still is what it can now provide.”

Earlier this month PT announced its intention to merge with Brazilian operator Oi, following the departure of PT CEO Zeinal Bava to Oi in June. The merged operation will have in the region of 100 million customers.
