Category four  of the The Telecoms.com LTE Awards 2013 is the Most Significant Development of a Commercial LTE network, which is judged on the progress and developments being made by an operator’s commercially available LTE network.

The nominations are:

  • EE: 4GEE

  • Etisalat: Etisalat

  • KT Corp: LTE WARP

  • SK Telecom: 4G LTE with PETA Solution

  • Telstra: 4G (LTE and trials of LTE-Advanced)

  • TELUS: TELUS

Telus was the first to commercialise the LTE micro cell for co-channel deployment, which Wu says meant Telus is leading global HetNet innovation. Using a co-channel micro cell deployment as an underlay demonstrated to operators globally that a smooth and seamless migration from a macro-only LTE network into a heterogeneous network was possible and was as an effective way to increase network capacity and performance.

In response to the nomination Michael Wu, senior director of wireless access technology planning and development at TELUS said that the nomination for the award meant a lot to Telus.  “It essentially recognises the success of Canadian telecom business, and more specifically showcases Telus as a leader in technology innovation and introduction,” said Wu.
