Fading giants Motorola and Blockbuster have teamed up in a bid to revive both their flagging fortunes by putting on demand movie services on Motorola handsets.

The troubled movie rental firm will make its OnDemand film download service available on select Motorola handsets, providing access to a library of thousands of titles.

Both Blockbuster and Motorola were tight lipped on the details of the deal, which will presumably require buy in from the mobile carriers that will have to carry all this data traffic.

The entertainment company, which was late to the on demand content game, said the deal will further its vision of consumers eventually using home electronics and portable devices, such as PCs, portable media players, Blu-ray Disc players, personal video recorders (PVRs), set-top boxes, mobile phones and web-connected TVs, to search Blockbuster’s catalogue of content and download, rent or purchase titles, schedule movies for mail delivery or reserve them for in-store pick-up.
